Knox Pewter 2009 design competition:
The winning design of the V&A Knox Pewter Competition has been announced. The competition is organised by the V&A and Wentworth Pewter, in association with Liberty.
The pieces will be manufactured by Wentworth Pewter under licence from the V&A. The new Triquentra design, by Emma-Kate Francis reflects Wentworth’s commitment to helping broaden the use and design of pewter, whilst at the same time preserving traditional hand-crafted manufacturing techniques.
The designs was inspired by the work of Archibald Knox (1864-1933) who became associated with high quality pewter through his partnership with Liberty, from 1899 onwards. Knox’s designs transformed the use and reputation of pewter as a material, and many of his original drawings and sketches are now in the V&Acollections, together with several finished pieces.
It will be sold through department stores and gift shops throughout the UK, and will be marketed with supporting provenance material, outlining the link between the V&A and Wentworth. The competition was open to all designers both professional and students.
